Our Process

Building God’s Way has developed a unique 6 step approach that offers an alternative to the traditional delivery models of Design/Build and Design/Bid/Build. Our process integrates biblical principles through Stewardship, Relationship, and Outreach. Over the last twenty years, BGW and its partner builders have utilized this process with more than 850 ministries nationwide. Many times BGW is the second, third and sometimes fourth design or construction firm contacted by ministries in desperate need of help with building a facility within their budget and that meets the needs of their ministry.

STEP 1 OF 6: MINISTRY CONSULTATION

Our first step gives your leadership team a look at our overall process. We meet with your leadership and walk them through our process. Helping your team understand who we are and what we bring to your ministry is key. Your team will decide if our process resonates with your ministry, your vision, mission and culture of your ministry.

STEP 2 OF 6: MINISTRY ASSESSMENT

During this step, we discover the direction and specific needs of your ministry. We meet with staff and key leaders to gain insight that brought you to the point “we need to do something.” Here we look at feasibility both financial and practical. Where are our stress points? Is a building program right for us now? Are we healthy enough to move forward? Do we multi-site, multi-venue? Is a sustainable project viable? How do we breakthrough a growth plateau? Answering these and more questions will lead us to the right answer for your ministry.

STEP 3 OF 6: CHARRETTE PRELIMINARY DESIGN

In cooperation with BGW Architects, we utilize a unique conceptual design process called a “CHARRETTE”, an intense and highly collaborative effort that takes place over a three day period at the ministry site. This process allows design solutions to evolve quickly with the direct participation of key ministry leaders, BGW Construction project team and real-time adaptations by the architect. During this process, 75–90% of the preliminary design is completed, and the vision of the ministry is captured and translated into preliminary site plans, floor plans, seating diagrams, sketches, and exterior renderings. This package, once finalized by your team, will include a preliminary total cost estimate for your project. This package becomes your vision casting visuals to present to your church.

STEP 4 OF 6: FUNDING | STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN

While a capital campaign can be a key element in funding your ministry vision, it should not be the only element. BGW has aligned with strategic partners and experienced pastors who understand the challenge of ministry fundraising and are equipped to come alongside your leadership to develop a customized, comprehensive and strategic funding plan. These partners will also help your ministry to successfully navigate the lending market and solicit short or long term loans or bonds, raise up for-profit investors, and explore the potential of planned giving and crowdfunding.

STEP 5 OF 6: CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS

We strive for a seamless transition from Charrette to construction documents using our preliminary design as the foundation moving forward. There are three teams involved in this step: your ministry design team, the BGW project design team, and the BGWC project team. We will have weekly design team meetings to review and discuss the design as we move forward. BGWC’s project team will closely monitor the project budget keeping the ministry informed of any cost implications, positive or negative. This process allows the ministry to control the design and budget to prevent costly overruns at the end of the day.

STEP 6 OF 6: CONSTRUCTION OF YOUR FACILITY

BGWC will act as Construction Manager/General Contractor for your project. We provide onsite supervision; we will manage and schedule all sub-contractors working on your project. We conduct onsite meetings with the sub-contractors, site superintendent, project manager and ministry representative. These meetings keep everyone up to date on the progress of your project. We continue to look for cost savings to benefit your church as much as possible. We give 100% of any savings we garner back to your ministry. We are an open book, providing transparency for communicating the value we place on honesty and relational integrity.

Ministry of Construction

The true heart of the Building God's Way approach, the Ministry of Construction program offers churches and Christian schools a step-by-step guide to organizing a successful outreach ministry during construction. This provides ministries with a unique opportunity to show the love of Christ to construction workers that are right in their own backyard.

Over the years, we have seen God do amazing things through this program, as hundreds of construction workers have been impacted with the life-changing message of the Gospel.

BGW has developed an effective organizational structure that allows the church to show the love of Christ and serve those that are working to construct the new facility. With hundreds of different subcontractors on your property during the construction process, this is a rare opportunity for the congregation to expand ministry to a whole new group of people in the community.

The Ministry of Construction program has been an integral part of the Building God's Way approach since its founding in 1997. With hundreds of ministry projects all across the U.S. over the past 2 decades, the Ministry of Construction program has continually been refined and updated as new ministry ideas and methods are discovered.

An in-depth program manual provides ministries with valuable information on developing an effective organizational structure, identifying team leaders, conducting ministry fairs, organizing the 5 key ministry teams and more. The program manual also includes a broad collection of successful outreach ideas that have been gathered from hundreds of ministry projects, as well as strategies to safely incorporate volunteers, mobilize prayer and publicity teams, and ideas for conducting ceremonies on the job site such as groundbreaking, grand opening, slab parities and more.
